Dexter Calves

Here are updated pictures of our calves we had for 2009 on our farm. We ended up with 3 Bull calves and 2 heifer's. They are all so cute and so inquisitive. When we go into the pasture they will cautiously come up to us to check us out. They were so intrigued when I was out there taking pictures of them, they couldn't help but come and see what I was doing.

The Calves

We have had 4 calves, 1 Heifer and 3 Bull Calves, so far this spring with one more due the end of May. I can't believe how fast they are growing. They are so cute and are so much fun to watch. They are all sired by our AWESOME bull Tighe. He is so handsome and has the most amazing, gentle personality. We couldn't have asked for a better bull than Tighe. Here are some updated pictures of them.

Miss Meg... Born 4/1/09

Bridger... Born 4/3/09

Cooper... Born 4/6/09

Porter... Born 4/15/09

Some of these pictures were taken in the evening with flash and washed their colors out. They are beautiful calves and have great personalities. They are so funny to watch them playing and running around the pasture chasing each other.

We will be offering the Bull calves for sale. If you are interested in any of them please contact us at jack@magichillsfarm.com or speck@magichillsfarm.com.

It's Springtime on the Farm.....

This last week has been very eventful here at Magic Hills Farm. We have had 3 Dexter calves born and hatched 22 chicks, in addition to the 16 Orpington Chicks I picked up in Idaho a couple of weeks ago. We have 2 more cows that are still pregnant and should deliver them in the next month or so. I also have eggs in the incubator and will have chicks hatching for the next couple of weeks. I am excited to watch all these babies grow up.

Spruce delivered "Nutmeg" around 10:45 pm on April 1, 2009. We are going to be keeping her to add to our herd. She is a polled, red heifer, everything we have been hoping for. Nutmeg had a hard start and we had to tube feed her and we kept her in the house for the first couple of days to keep her warm. Saturday she finally decided she had been a house cow long enough and wanted her mom. Spruce was very excited to have her back and has been a fantastic mom.

Meg on her Birthday....
Meg, the spoiled princess, in her playpen in the house. :)

Miss Meg, finally back out with her mom. And they are both really happy!! Meg today 4/6/09.

Mayflower delivered this handsome red bull calf around 3:30 pm on Friday, April 3, 2009. She has been an awesome mom. We are pleased to introduce Magic Hills Bridger.

Bridger on his Birthday.....

Bridger today 4/6/09

We woke up this morning to a bit of a surprise. Antero had delivered a darling little black bull calf during the night. We have decided his name will be Magic Hills Cooper.

We will be offering both Bridger and Cooper for sale. Please contact us if you are interested in either of them.

Then we have the chicks.... there is nothing cuter than fuzzy little chicks. I hatched some Barnevelder chicks and some Mottled Bantam Cochins. The little cochins are so tiny. They are so cute!! I can't wait until next spring, when I have hatching eggs to offer for sale.

I also have more Blue Orpington and Ameraucana eggs in my incubator due to hatch on Saturday 4/11 and have some Blue, Black & Splash Orpington eggs that arrived today and they will be going in the incubator tomorrow morning and will hatch around April 27th.
